Snow covered hills on the way to Sheffield via Manchester, just before Snake’s Pass.

I was in the Her name is Calla van as they had a few January dates in the UK supporting the amazing Cult of Luna, and I thought I’d tag along and sit on their merch desk. The weather had been really bad all weekend, but by the time the van headed for Sheffield, it stopped snowing, so we pulled over to appreciate the view a little.

Not sure what happened to the camera at this point, but I do like the dreamy element in all the grey dreariness. It was taken down by the Tjorn when me and Sophie were walking back to Russell’s house.

It was taken the day after we’d seen Sigur Rós as the final part of our Airwaves 2012 adventure, so the last two nights we were in Iceland were kind of wind-down ones, and were spent just generally ambling about downtown in the cold. It’d been lovely and bright up until this point, but those last two days were rainy, grey and windy. Probably a sign that we couldn’t beat that first few days topped off with SR in their hometown :)

It’s funny, of all the times I’ve visited Iceland (10 year anniversary of my first trip coming next year! eep!) there were still a lot of things I’d not even tried. With this in mind, me and Sophie decided we’d do as much as we could that we’d not done before, to make the trip something extra special. We started by doing the touristy thing of heading up to the top of the church for a few snaps of the view - something I probably should’ve done a long time ago! It was pretty awesome - seeing the whole city from up high. It reminded me of my first trip, and getting so lost walking around, that I ended up using the massive steeple that dominates the skyline as a sort of compass. It worked as well, and still use it as a method even now!

The last shot I took of my little return to my homeland, this is a little shot of the train tracks at the seemingly always-deserted-on-a-weekend Baildon train station. It was great to head back to Yorkshire for a bit, and even though we had a mammoth 6 hour journey home (due to a flooded line somewhere near Hebden Bridge), it was well worth it to re-connect, if only for a day or so, with my roots.

Baildon train station! Lots of memories of this place…...
